About Sleeping Giant
Sleeping Giant serves the Big Horn Basin and Greater Yellowstone area with recreational downhill skiing, snowboarding, nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and zip lining. The recreation area is located just outside of Yellowstone’s East Gate, and only 50 miles west of Cody, Wyoming.
Over the last decade, Sleeping Giant has become the destination for local adventure. Our recreation area provides patrons with Wyoming’s largest dual zip line in the summer and beautifully-groomed slopes, diverse terrain, and top-of-the-line ski and snowboard instruction in the winter. Sleeping Giant is also known for its incredible views and wildlife.
Parents and kids are the livelihood of Sleeping Giant. Families come here because they feel safe and look forward to having a good time. They know that every other patron on the mountain is willing to offer guidance and assistance to others – young or old. It’s our community culture.
We pride ourselves in partnering with organizations in the community, hosting various youth programs, and putting on events for the Big Horn Basin to enjoy. When people experience Sleeping Giant, they will want to come back for more.
In April 2007, a local group led by Jim Nielson, began negotiations to acquire Sleeping Giant, a nearby ski area that ceased operations in 2004. The Yellowstone Recreations Foundation was established to reopen and improve this facility. Since its reopening, the Sleeping Giant Recreational Area has already become an economical family recreation destination that promotes alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, and snowshoeing. Each of these winter activities encourage coordination, strength training, and cardiovascular health among youth and adults. Sleeping Giant recently added a zip line tour, making it a great destination for summer activities as well.
Our not-for-profit entity is headquartered in Cody, Wyoming, and is led by a diverse volunteer board made up of local community leaders. We currently operate Sleeping Giant Ski Area & Zip Line, and have partnered with many recreational groups in the area to further expand our mission.
